Happy New Year

The calendar has turned. A new year and a new decade are here. 2020. WOW. Is that mind blowing or what? Have you been asking yourself what you want to accomplish this year? Even if you don’t write it down or label it as a goal or a resolution, most of us have thought on some level about what we want this new year to look like. We make promises to ourselves to quit certain habits, eat better and exercise more. We make plans to travel, lose weight, have a baby, buy a house, get married, write a book, or go to college? Here is the big question: Have you asked God what He thinks about your plan?

It is easy to write out a list of things we want to do, especially at the beginning of a new year or even a new week and leave God completely out. If we include Him at all it is usually after we have had a set back or a failure. I wonder if a better idea might be to talk to Him right up front. Right at the start. Consider Jeremiah 29:11, I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

If we believe that is true, then maybe, just maybe, it would save us a lot of heartache to go to him first.

But, how do you start asking God to be a part of every little detail? Well, It’s like any other good habit we are trying to implement. It takes practice. Practice, practice PRACTICE.

1. Set aside some time each day to meet with Him. I pray on my knees because it feels reverent and I‘m less distracted because of my position before him.

2. Open his word and find out what He wants to say to you. Find a reading plan that excites you so you will stay faithful.

3. Write it down. Journaling is a valuable tool often left out of the building of ones own personal development.

I encourage you, as I have encouraged myself, to make 2020 the year to put God first in everything. We don’t always have to understand exactly what He is doing or know exactly how it will turn out. We just have to believe His plan is the best plan and then move forward.

We live by faith not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

Blessings to you in all you do this year for Jesus!
